As soon as April was born we knew that this was something that was always going to be in our hearts. We said right from day 1 that if we were ever going to do any fundraising it would be for premature babies. Until you have experienced a Neo Natal Unit, or a Special Baby Care Unit you don’t fully appreciate what having a premature baby means.
You begin to realise the profound affect this can have on people’s lives as it did ours, and still does and also the costs associated with a baby in intensive care. It actually costs the NHS £1,118 to look after just 1 baby in intensive care, every day!
We decided we wanted to give something back to help other premature babies get the best start in life and its our way of saying that you to the amazing teams at the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough and the Cumberland Infirmary.
Bliss is the Charity for babies born too early, too small or too sick. They exist to ensure that every baby born premature or sick in the UK has the best chance of survival and quality of life.
- They support families – with emotional and practical support
- They support professionals & that care for babies on the neonatal unit is of the highest possible standard.
- They campaign for change – to ensure consistent, high quality care is available to every premature or sick baby who needs it so they have the best chance of survival and quality of life.
- Research – to raise standards of care and improve premature and sick babies’ chances of survival and their quality of life.
We are raising money to support Bliss in these activities. We will also raise money for the teams at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough and the Cumberland Infirmary where we both received outstanding care.
